First Plus-X roll

by Todd on May 1, 2012

Late last week I got a great deal on some newly-expired Kodak Plus-X film (discontinued). Yesterday I received my CLA’d Pentax MX from Eric Hendrickson. Seemed like a perfect opportunity to take the camera for a spin, as well as try this film out. I shot most of it pretty quickly during a lunch break, [...]

Kodak BW400CN (C-41 process B & W)

by Todd on April 12, 2012

I haven’t had a lot of time to update my posts here, but I have been shooting lots of film, and loving it more with every roll. In fact, I think if I never shot professionally, I would get rid of my digital gear. The whole process of film is so enticing for me. Also, [...]

Blue Sky, or Blue Sky?

by Todd on October 16, 2011

Just a few more shots from around Iowa this fall. I suppose I should look into finding a good white balance routine for film. The sky is a different shade of blue in every one of these! It’s so much easier with digital…

Thin DOF on the Tracks

by Todd on October 11, 2011

OK, maybe not quite as catchy as the Dylan title. Both shots were at f/5.6. Being new to medium format, it still astonishes me how much of a DOF difference there is with this camera. These were Kodak Ektar. I got a pretty nice roll this time, and have several more to post, but not [...]

West Liberty, Iowa

by Todd on October 6, 2011

More shots with the Bronica SQ-Ai, and Portra 400. All taken in or near West Liberty. All f/16 or f/11, 1/500s. The first one has a level of redundancy I find charming.

Kim on Three Films

by Todd on June 25, 2011

My friend Kim visited earlier this week for some headshots, and it gave me a chance to run through a few rolls of film. It was great fun, but it had been too long since I shot with the Bronica. This was the first time shooting with the new Speed Grip, and I screwed [...]

Old Art Building

by Todd on March 27, 2011

Two shots of the old art building on the University of Iowa Campus, heavily flood-damaged in 2008, and still sitting unoccupied as far as I know. The second photo was taken on a perpendicular axis to the first, from a position near the right edge of that frame. It reminds me of some of the [...]

TMax 3200, Foggy Morning

by Todd on March 13, 2011

Seems like this film was made for foggy mornings! Despite the fog, it was actually pretty bright, and most of these were shot at 1/4000th or faster, and f/8 or smaller. Zeiss 100 Makro-Planar on the Nikon F100.

New Strand Theatre

by Todd on February 28, 2011

The New Strand is in West Liberty, Iowa. Built in 1910, and still actively showing movies today as far as I know. I’ve never been inside. These were shot with the Bronica SQ-Ai on Kodak Ektar 100.
