Rachel, Fomapan, Strobes

by Todd on February 10, 2012

I have never done any film work for a paid shoot, and since I moved away from strobes long before coming to film, I’ve also never used strobes with film before. Rachel decided to change that this week. She wanted her shots done on film, and she also wanted classic Hollywood portrait lighting. She specifically […]

Neopan Acros, 120

by Todd on December 11, 2011

I haven’t posted in a while so I made myself finish a roll of Acros yesterday. This is the first roll of 120 I’ve done with my new tank and Hewes reel. I can’t say enough good things about Hewes reels…so easy to work with. These were all shot at ISO 400 and developed in […]

My Grandma + I need a new Pentax

by Todd on September 22, 2011

That’s my grandma, taken a couple of weeks ago at her home in Fairfield. She’s 86. This is a pretty rare shot here, for a couple of reasons. First, a great smile, looking into the camera. Grandma’s well-known in the family for being cameraphobic. Usually if I get a picture of her, she’s either looking […]

Parkour

by Todd on September 20, 2011

I spotted Jordan this past weekend, while going to the farmer’s market across from the Iowa City Civic Center. He was jumping over rails, running up walls, and all kinds of crazy stuff. I took a few frames of him in action, then asked if I could do a quick portrait. Nikon F100, Zeiss 100/2 […]

New shots on Ilford FP4

by Todd on September 19, 2011

Just sort of a random collection. Shot with the F100 and Zeiss 100/2 Makro-Planar (as usual…hehe…it’s hard not to use this great combo!). Developed in 1:25 Rodinal, for 10 minutes, in my new Kindermann metal tank. The feature shot of the truck, above, was shot at box speed (125), as were the first five shots […]

AckK! Developing Failure

by Todd on September 19, 2011

I am clearly still a n00b. I developed a roll of LegacyPro (Neopan) 100, pushed two stops, with the same 10-minute Rodinal (1:25) protocol I’ve been using lately, with horrible results: At first I had no idea what had gone wrong. Could have been the film, the developer, the scanner, etc. I was kinda bummed. […]

Neopan 400 Pushed Two Stops

by Todd on September 15, 2011

While I’ve really liked the coarse grain of Rodinal stand development, I’m also pretty impressed with how clean a scan I can get by pushing the LegacyPro (Neopan) 400 by two stops and doing a quicker process, with frequent agitation. These were all shot at 1600, and processed for 10 minutes in 1:25 Rodinal, with […]

Finishing Off a Roll

by Todd on September 4, 2011

Just a few random snapshots I took so I could finish up this roll, since I had a chance to do some developing yesterday. Nikon F100 with the Zeiss 100/2 Makro-Planar. LegacyPro (Neopan) 100, exposed at 400, developed in Rodinal 1:25 for 10 minutes, with brief agitation once per minute.

Parting Shot

by Todd on September 4, 2011

“Parting” for two reasons: it was one one of the last shots I took at this wedding, and it may be among my last professional wedding shots ever. Not because I haven’t enjoyed many aspects of every wedding I’ve shot, or because I wasn’t happy with the results. It just stresses me out to be […]

Some New (for me) Ilford Films

by Todd on July 9, 2011

Sam was in yesterday for headshots, and I had some film I really wanted to try: Ilford HP5 Plus 400 and Ilford FP4 Plus 125. These were acquisitions from an expired film bargain bin, and I had never worked with either emulsion. So after getting a few digital shots in the bag, I broke out […]
