Rodinal

A friend was randomly passing through town today, so I went to lunch with her, took one snap there, then I went to West Liberty and walked around for awhile with the Contax combo. The film is Legacy Pro 100, shot at box speed and developed in Rodinal: 1:40, sixty seconds of slow inversion, then […]

Contax G2, Arista EDU 400 film

by Todd on August 24, 2012

I’m starting to love the versatility and portability of the Contax G2 a lot. I’ve had only limited time to shoot lately, so it’s nice to have something small and easy to carry. I see a Zhou case in my future! I’m also really liking this inexpensive Arista film.

Three portraits: Fuji GA645

by Todd on July 25, 2012

I like longer lenses for portraits, but I could learn to like 60mm on this camera. The lens is just so good! These are snaps from Monday, when I stopped into the lab where I used to work. The first guy, on the wrong side of the light, is David, my old boss. The guy […]

Contax G1 portraits

by Todd on June 16, 2012

I did a family session last night. Digital, of course, because I am far from having enough confidence yet to do such a thing with film. But I brought along the G1 and took a few snaps with it. I’m still having reasonably good luck with the G1 autofocus (there were three misfocused frames on […]

Contax G1 test roll + G2 comparison

by Todd on June 13, 2012

This is your lucky day, know why? Because you get to see a bunch of boring pictures of the same shit I always shoot when I don’t have an immediately available subject. When I get a new camera, I like to run a couple of rolls through just as soon as I can, so I […]

C-41 film in Rodinal

by Todd on May 17, 2012

I’ve seen a few examples of people doing this, so I wanted to give it a try. I’ve got a couple of dozen rolls of Fuji 800, expired 2003, which I thought was a good candidate film. I exposed the film at ISO 400. I used a 1:80 dilution of Rodinal for 90 minutes, with […]

Plus-X pushed

by Todd on May 15, 2012

As promised, I shot another roll of Kodak Plus-X 125 and developed a little differently. This roll was exposed at 250 and developed in rodinal, 1:80 for 90 minutes. There’s still not much grain, and some of these shots look almost digital. I’m still favorably impressed with the Zeiss Vario-Sonnar 3.3/4. It’s better than most […]

More Contax snaps: two B/W films

by Todd on April 21, 2012

I’m just enjoying film a lot lately, 35mm specifically, and so I may not be posting the most awesome photos you’ve ever seen (which is different than normal, of course, when I routinely post the most awesome photos you’ve ever seen). Still really pleased with the Contax RX, and I want to run a bunch […]

New camera: Pentax PZ-1

by Todd on March 26, 2012

As much as I admire the antique gear, and the fact that I can still make great images with it, sometimes I want the camera to get out of my way when I’m shooting. Most importantly, I don’t want to have to worry about advancing the film. For getting out of the way and letting […]

Workbench

by Todd on February 22, 2012

I’ve been so enamored of my Holga lately that haven’t shot the Bronica much at all (check out my new Holga site, BTW). There was a roll of long-expired Ilford Delta 3200 in it, and I had no real idea what was even on it. I developed the roll yesterday. Big ugly stripe across the […]
