Contax G1 test roll + G2 comparison

by Todd on June 13, 2012

This is your lucky day, know why? Because you get to see a bunch of boring pictures of the same shit I always shoot when I don’t have an immediately available subject. When I get a new camera, I like to run a couple of rolls through just as soon as I can, so I […]

Fuji 800, Pentax PZ-1, FA77

by Todd on June 7, 2012

Small gallery from a roll started a couple of weeks ago, developed yesterday. The shot of my son (Budweiser hat, LOL) is remarkable for its slow shutter. I’m not normally a very steady hand for this kind of shooting, but managed to get this one: one-quarter second exposure. I actually like the mixed light here, […]

Contax G2 with Zeiss 45/2 Planar

by Todd on June 6, 2012

I received my first rangefinder from KEH yesterday, the Contax G2. I’ve been looking forward to this camera for a long time, primarily for the legendary quality of the Carl Zeiss 45 f/2 Planar lens. I’ve already sent the camera back, due to several minor issues. However, the G2 is a phenomenal camera, and the […]

Dynamic range

by Todd on June 3, 2012

Feeling pretty good about getting the exposure right on this shot. Only took one frame, no bracketing. Film is Fuji Neopan 400 (expired several years). Shot with the Pentax PZ-1 and the FA43. Stand developed in R09 at 1:80. Gentle inversions for one minute, then left alone for one hour.

Expired slide film is expired

by Todd on May 29, 2012

A few weeks ago I was given some expired Kodak Elite Chrome 100 by Roger, the owner at University Camera in Iowa City. I shot one of these rolls two weeks ago when I was at Rochester Cemetery, same day that I shot the Fuji 800 that I developed in Rodinal. I just got the […]

Canon A-1, second roll

by Todd on May 20, 2012

This is 10+ year old Fuji Superia 800, and I think it’s extra grainy due to its age, although it might be the Walgreen’s scans. Mainly I wanted to confirm there was no problem with the camera due to my “shutter squeal” fix, and it seems to be OK. Just a bunch of mostly boring […]

My first Canon

by Todd on May 19, 2012

A few weeks ago I was visiting the lab where I used to work. My boss found out I was shooting a lot of film and getting into old cameras, and he kindly offered to give me his old Canon A-1 and 50mm lens. Obviously I took him up on it…free gear is great. To […]

C-41 film in Rodinal

by Todd on May 17, 2012

I’ve seen a few examples of people doing this, so I wanted to give it a try. I’ve got a couple of dozen rolls of Fuji 800, expired 2003, which I thought was a good candidate film. I exposed the film at ISO 400. I used a 1:80 dilution of Rodinal for 90 minutes, with […]

Plus-X pushed

by Todd on May 15, 2012

As promised, I shot another roll of Kodak Plus-X 125 and developed a little differently. This roll was exposed at 250 and developed in rodinal, 1:80 for 90 minutes. There’s still not much grain, and some of these shots look almost digital. I’m still favorably impressed with the Zeiss Vario-Sonnar 3.3/4. It’s better than most […]
